Exa Finds the Competitors, EveryInfra Checks Their Reviews: 30 Companies Tested
On October 25, 2026, we used Exa to list 30 companies in 3 categories by meaning, then used EveryInfra to look up each one's G2 rating and Trustpilot profile. 18 had a rating on at least one site, both searches returned the same lists, and the 60 lookups cost $0.058.

The first step of a competitor table is knowing who the competitors are. A keyword search for "note-taking apps like Obsidian" mostly returns reviews and top-10 lists, not the companies themselves. Exa searches by meaning, and with category: "company" it returns company home pages (Exa Search API docs). The second step is each company's reputation. EveryInfra's G2 search API and Trustpilot company profile API return G2 and Trustpilot ratings and review counts as JSON fields.
On October 25, 2026, from 13:28 to 13:41 Singapore time, we chained the two steps for 3 categories and 30 companies to see how many we could look up, what it cost and how long it took.
The pass criteria we wrote down first
- Stability: search each category again at least 5 minutes later. The two runs must share at least 8 of 10 companies.
- Coverage: at least 18 of the 30 companies (60%) must have a rating on G2 or Trustpilot. Below that, we would only write a docs example, not this article.
- Cost cap: EveryInfra ≤ $0.20, Exa ≤ $0.10.
Result: all three passed. Stability was 10/10 in every category, coverage exactly 18/30, and the cost $0.058 for EveryInfra and $0.042 for Exa.
Method
Exa step: 3 queries, note-taking apps similar to Obsidian, CRM software for small sales teams and email marketing tools for small businesses, 10 results each, category set to company and type to auto. One run at 13:28 and another at 13:34.
EveryInfra step: two calls per company. g2/search searches by company name, and a G2 product counts as a match only when its name is identical. trustpilot/profile looks up the company domain. The company name is the Exa result title without anything after " - " or " | ". 3 calls ran at a time.

Result: 18 of 30 companies have reviews
| Category | G2 rating | Trustpilot profile | At least one | Neither |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Note-taking apps | 7 | 4 | 7 | 3 |
| Small-team CRM | 3 | 2 | 4 | 6 |
| Email marketing | 5 | 6 | 7 | 3 |
| Total | 15 | 12 | 18 | 12 |
Small-team CRM had the lowest coverage. Exa mostly returned young companies such as GoSale, Ahoy and Meetzy, which have G2 product pages but no reviews yet; leaders like HubSpot or Pipedrive were not among the 10. Exa returns the company sites closest in meaning to the query, not a ranking by market share. That suits finding new long-tail competitors; for the market leaders you need another list.
Name mismatches miss big companies
With exact-name matching, 3 companies that are on G2 did not match:
- The Exa title was Sales Cloud; on G2 it is Salesforce Sales Cloud, 4.4 with 27,576 reviews.
- The Exa title was Intuit Mailchimp; on G2 it is Intuit Mailchimp Email Marketing, 4.3 with 12,995.
- The Exa title was Robly Email Marketing; on G2 it is Robly, 4.5 with 918.
With a looser rule, "one name contains the other", coverage goes from 18 to 21 companies. But a looser rule can pick a similar product from another vendor: the second G2 result for Sales Cloud is SAP Sales Cloud. Our advice: fill the table automatically with exact matches, then check the top G2 results by hand for the companies that did not match.

G2 and Trustpilot measure different things
The two scores for one company can be far apart. Salesforce has a TrustScore of 1.2 on Trustpilot (661 reviews) and 4.4 on G2; Mailchimp has 2.5 on Trustpilot (1,550 reviews) and 4.3 on G2. The two sites get reviews from different people and score them differently, and the reason for a gap only shows in the review text, which we did not read this time. In a competitor table, keep the two columns apart; do not merge them into one score.
One more detail: a Trustpilot TrustScore is not a plain average. Recent reviews weigh more, and the calculation adds 7 neutral 3.5-star reviews (Trustpilot Help Center). That is why Joplin, with 1 review rated 3.5, has a TrustScore of 3.7. Companies with few reviews are pulled toward 3.5.

Cost and time
- Exa: 6 searches at $0.007 each, $0.042 in total. That matches Auto Search at $7 per 1,000 requests (up to 10 results) on the Exa pricing page. Each search took 1.5–1.8 seconds.
- EveryInfra: 60 calls, $0.058338 in total. All 30
g2/searchcalls were billed at $0.001389, also when no product had the same name, because the API still returned search results. Only the 12trustpilot/profilecalls that found a profile were billed; the other 18 returned empty results and were free. - Time: median 43.5 seconds for
g2/searchand 29.1 seconds fortrustpilot/profile. With 3 calls at a time, the 30 companies ran from 13:28 to 13:41, about 13 minutes.
| Step | Calls | Billed | Price | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Exa search | 6 | All 6 | $0.007 each, $0.042 in total | 1.5–1.8 seconds each |
| EveryInfra g2/search | 30 | All 30, also when no product had the same name | $0.001389 each | Median 43.5 seconds |
| EveryInfra trustpilot/profile | 12 found a profile, 18 returned empty results | Only the 12 that found a profile | Empty results are free | Median 29.1 seconds |
| EveryInfra total | 60 | — | $0.058338 | 3 at a time, 13:28 to 13:41, about 13 minutes |
A 10-company competitor review table costs less than $0.05 for both services together.

When these results do not hold
- Small sample: 3 categories of 10 companies, all with English queries. Chinese queries or other industries will give different coverage.
- Exa results change: two identical runs 6 minutes apart do not mean the same list in a few weeks.
- We looked only at ratings and review counts, not at review text. EveryInfra can also return G2 and Trustpilot review text (G2 reviews API); we did not use it here.
- Exa's index has no Reddit threads: with
includeDomainsset to reddit.com, the search returned 0 results, at no cost. For Reddit discussions you need another source.
Cost of this test: 60 EveryInfra calls, $0.058338 in total; 6 Exa searches, $0.042. Exa is our partner, and the links to Exa in this article carry no referral code.
